KOLI CULTURA CENTER
Becoming Koli Cultura will ensure a wonderful setting for a lively tourist center and vivid culture life, which draws its content from the surrounding pure nature. The construction will be a combination of the best architecture, landscape design and eco-energy solutions, carefully matched to the unique nature of its environment. With a capacity for over 1.000 overnight visitors, the centre will cater over 100.000 travellers annually. The area has a real demand for new services and a growing number of beds, as the number of visitors is steadily rising.
Koli Cultura area, 9 hectares, located in a perfect spot, along the existing customer stream, right next to the National Park. The area is covered by a detailed plan and it’s owned by Napa-Koli Oy, the company developing the center.
The center is conveniently situated outside the Koli national park, along the main road that leads into the park. This location is represantive of new thinking in design with aims to make one of the Finland’s most famous national park more accessible while reducing road traffic within the park.
The architecture of Koli Cultura is being designed by highly valued Finnish JKMM Architects, experts in timber construction. JKMM won the Koli Cultura architecture competition in 2009, together with Harris-Kjisik Architects, who received a special mention.
Koli Cultura’s architecture is a combination of the best works of art from these two offices. Advanced methods and state-of-the-art materials are used in the constructions. Buildings feature a lot of wood, combinations of wood and other natural materials. The plans include a number of advanced technology solutions, which save costs, energy and environment.
Respecting the landscape
Designing also has a high aesthetical value, and the surrounding landscapes are safeguarded by carefully considering building locations. Landscape architects LOCI are designing the Koli Cultura area in cooperation with the building architects to form a cohesive landscape without compromising its national and ecological heritage. The centre is in a valley blends well with its environment.

Koli Cultura creates a framework for emerging nature tourism businesses in Koli area. Due to the annually growing number of visitors on Koli national park, there is a high demand for new services and accommodation.
Koli Cultura center will include 1170 beds. They are located in 5 hotel buildings, one apartment hotel, 55 holiday apartments in different sizes and 5-star camping area. Total bed capacity in the hotel business will be 610 beds and it has 329 accommodation units in 6 buildings.
In addition, the hotel complex includes facilities for restaurants, cafes, conferences, wellness services and various events. There will be a modern parking center for almost 300 cars under the main hotel building, which fixes the current totally inadequate parking space capacity in the area.
